Since a german tourist took pictures of the new K1600 LT in the US, it’s no secret that BMW is developing a six-cylinder engine for its touring models. The bavarians announced now further details of two other motorcycles, the K1600 GT and the K1600 GTL.
As suspected, both bikes will feature the 102 kg transversely-mounted engine, which produces 129ft-lbs torque and 160hp. What’s more impressive, 70% of the torque is available from just 1500 rpm. The six-cylinder machine will also get DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), Duolever and Paralever suspension with the factory’s Electronic Suspension Adjustment ESA II. The throttle is ride by wire, and the driver can choose from three power configurations, “Rain”, “Road” and “Dynamic”. The bike features a TFT colour screen with menu guidance, audio system with preparation for navigation device and controllable interface for iPod, MP3, USB, Bluetooth and satellite radio. While the K1600 GT is better for proactive touring, the GTL offers more comfort and relaxed ergonomics for long trips. Both bikes will have a long list of individually tailored accessories and luxury touring features.
