BMW will introduce its new K-series this fall, and approaching the date more and more details emerge from the two touring machines, the K1600GT and K1600GTL. The germans announced last week that both bikes will get adaptive headlights, now we get the first information and photos about the dashboard.
The K1600GT and GTL will feature analog tachometer and speedometer, while between the two of them will sit a 5.7-inch color TFT LCD screen to display secondary information. The driver can control the functions on this screen with an iDrive-like multi-controller hat rotates, clicks and toggles.
The first iDrive system was originally introduced on the 2001 7-series but the customers didn’t like the complicated menu system, and BMW did several revisions on the iDrive in the past nine years. Today the iDrive works just fine in cars but will it on motorcycles? One thing is sure: the knob positioned on the left handlebar can rotate, slide into 3 or 9 o’clock and click like a mouse button. BMW says, “Flat hierarchies completely do away with the need for complex clicking through sub-menus during travel. The menu structure was specially developed for the specific demands of motorcycling and optimized by means of user tests.”
