Zero Motorcycles, the global leader in the electric motorcycle industry announced yesterday it has raised $26 million in additional financing from its investor group, led by Invus, LP. The financing closed on March 3rd, 2011 with $17 million invested and the potential for an additional $9 million over the coming months as the company continues to grow. Members of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) voted on their favorite roads in America, and the top 15 selections represent scenic highways and byways throughout the country. To celebrate its 90th anniversary this year, Moto Guzzi created a new website. The company was founded March 15, 1921 on the shores of Lake Como in the village of Mandello del Lario, Italy, where modern Moto Guzzi motorcycles are still manufactured today. Japanese sports industry is now facing hard times after last Friday’s earthquake and tsunami. Reports said that the 9.0-magnitude earthquake caused cracks on the track and also damaged spectator seats at the Motegi circuit (90 miles north of Tokyo), which has led to MotoGP World Championship being rearranged for October. The race was originally scheduled for April 24. The MotoGP season is due to get under way at Losail in Qatar. Newly reborn German manufacturer Horex is currently testing its new VR6 model. "In this phase of the test series we mainly wanted to determine whether the current suspension configuration, basic geometry and engine tuning are correctly matched," – says the company. The 1218cc engine is a mixture of a straight and a V-twin engine and delivers around 180-200hp.The serial production of the VR6 begins at the end of 2011 in Augsburg, Germany. Read the full article »

Rizla Suzuki has officially unveiled its updated 2011 GSV-R racing bike. The machine which Álvaro Bautista will be riding in this season’s MotoGP World Championship is the final generation of the 800cc GSV-R four-stroke prototype Grand Prix bike, due to the change in capacity limit to 1000cc next season. The latest version of Suzuki’s MotoGP challenger features an engine that has improved on its horsepower, driveability and durability through many detailed development changes throughout winter and pre-season testing. Read the full article »

Brazilian artist Jose Geraldo Reis Pfau creates gorgeous motorcycle miniatures using only parts from old wristwatches. The inspiration for the sculptures came from other similar pieces of art. He started this project using regular keys, developing motorcycle images. Through research in publications and web sites he got to know of other artists who have been working on a similar project. There are wonderful pieces of work made of wood, potery, screws, wires, but the ones identified exclusively with pieces of watches and glasses seem to be something new. Read the full article »
