Considering the sheer size of the Republic of Kazakhstan, it’s surprising how little many of us know about it. For many Kazakhstan is the birthplace of the hero in the movie “Borat,” however this amazing country is bigger than the whole of Western Europe, but is not an obvious destination for tourists, apart from GS-riding adventurers, many of whom have fallen in love with its deserts, flatlands, steppes and snow-capped mountains. One of the latest riders to be taken in by the charms and natural beauty of Kazakhstan is none other than streetbike freestyle legend Chris Pfeiffer, who recently returned from a visit to the world’s largest landlocked country with fond memories of its people, its countryside and its cultural diversity.
Pfeiffer’s recent tour of this transcontinental territory – the ninth largest country in the world – took him to three major cities: the capital Astana, Almaty and Karaganda, and involved several thousand kilometers of driving as he was prevented from flying due to ‘issues’ with his visa. That said, the German freestyle rider made sure he found time to head into the hills on his BMW F 800 R and create some amazing memories, including this image that shows one man’s mastery of his horse and another in complete control of horse power.
“We were high up in the mountains at an altitude of around 2,800 meters above Almati and it reminded me very much of the Alps,” said Chris. “The horse was amazing and was well trained so we were able to get the pictures we needed, even though it was nervous of the sound of the BMW engine. “
