Almost any major motorcycle manufacturer have models in the adventure touring category, for Triumph it would be the Tiger. Its closest rival is the Super Tenere but Yamaha’s 108 hp twin can’t match the Triumph’s three-cylinders pace. The KTM 1190 Adventure is a powerful, light bike with excellent off-road capabilities but lacks the Tiger’s comfort and shaft drive. And what about the king of the category, the new liquid-cooled BMW R1200 GS? We don’t have a good excuse for this one.
Some of the bikes above are better on loose surfaces than the Tiger but Triumph has just announced a special edition version that could very well change that, at least for the 50 lucky riders who can get one. The Explorer XC Special Edition have been fitted with a number of modifications that make it a better bike to travel the world on.
The special Tiger features a taller screen, headlight protectors, special front foot rests and radiator guards. The bikes have been fitted with a sat nav and mount as standards, a tank pad and panniers. Tires are TKC dual-purpose units. The bike will be available in two colors, matt black or matt blazing orange.
The changes didn’t reach the engine, though. At the heart is still Triumph’s award-winning 137hp three-cylinder power unit. Electronic aides include ride-by-wire throttle control, cruise control, switchable ABS and full rider traction control.
