It’s no secret that our friends down under have a deep love with the V8 engines. What our Australian friends have come up with now is a real monster on two wheels. It’s Australian built. It’s a V8. It’s called the PGM 2.0 liter V8. It costs about €160,000 ($180,000). And it’s one hell of a machine, a meticulously crafted, compact and outrageously powerful motorcycle for the most discerning of riders. Click through for more details.
Lets start with the facts. The PGM V8 – as the name suggests – is powered by a V8 engine. The 1996cc, 90-degree V8 engine delivers 334 hp (249 kW) at 12,800 rpm (measured at the countershaft sprocket), while torque is a massive 214 Nm (158 ft-lbs). According to the spec sheet, the flat plane crankshaft is machined from a single piece of En36 steel, heat treated and nitrited before final grinding and balancing. The bike comes with a six-speed sequential gearbox and a wet multi-disc clutch so it’s not overly complicated.
Fully fueled, the PGM 2.0 liter V8 weighs 242 kg, which is very impressive. To achieve this weight, the builders used a liberal amount of carbon fibre, titanium and aluminium. Bodywork is carbon fibre for rigidity, light weight and durability. The exhaust system is custom-made by Akrapovic, the world leader in exhaust system technology. The use of titanium alloy results in a significant weight saving, better heat dissipation and improved flow characteristics.
In addition to the carbon silencers required for road use, the PGMV8 comes supplied with a handmade MotoGP style system. This free flowing system delivers a howl reminiscent of a 1970’s F1 V8. Instrumentation incorporates the latest high resolution, full colour, display from Motec. The graphics are specially configured to match the requirements of the PGMV8. The surround is machined from billet aluminium.

PGM used top-shelf Ohlins suspensions, 48mm FGRT301 USD forks and a TTX Mk2 rear unit with a custom link. The bike is also fitted with Brembo brakes and Michelin tires sat upon aluminum forged Marchesini spoked wheels. Seat height is 840mm while fuel tank has a capacity of 16.5 litres.
According to the specs sheet, the top speed is: „how brave are you?”. Well, would you twist the throttle far enough? As motorcycle legend Alan Cathcart has put it: “Well – it’s not often that I’m left speechless – it is literally a ‘super’ bike in every sense. It is an incredible motorcycle.“
