Morgan Motor Company has introduced the EV3 prototype at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend. The EV3 is an all-electric three-wheeler that is powered by a singler electric motor producing 60hp. According to Morgan, the prototype is capable of 150 miles on one charge, taking four hours to reach full battery capacity. The EV3 is set to go into production the end of 2016.
There are many electric cars and motorcycles out there but there’s something in between. Yes, we’re talking about the odd Morgan three-wheeler, a vehicle that is powered by a S&S v-twin derived from a motorcycle.
Morgan 3 Wheeler: back to the future!
Now, Morgan Motor Company has revealed its second all-electric prototype. Following the Plus E, the EV3 is based on the standard Morgan 3 Wheeler that was reintroduced back in 2011. Bespoke to order, hand crafted and most of all fun, the EV3 looks at the world of zero emissions motoring with an entirely new approach.
Morgan also announced that this prototype version is currently undertaking a full testing and development programme and is expected to go into production towards the end of 2016. A single rear electric motor provides 45kw (60hp) of power and the overall weight is less than its combustion based counterpart at 450kg. Range is expected to be approximately 150 miles.
The EV3 features futuristic design, it looks like a 1950’s vision of a futuristic vehicle. “This is early days for us,” said Jonathan Wells, Morgan’s head of design “The biggest thing is to make sure the technology is right. Next, we’ll put ten cars on the road with customers for testing. At that point we’ll have a better estimate of how many we will build.”
There’s no official word on the pricetag yet but according to press reports, the EV3 won’t be more expensive than the „normal” three-wheeler, which costs £25,950 in the United Kingdom.
