Shoya Tomizawa was a talented Japanese motorcycle racer who died after sustaining cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma at the San Marino Grand Prix in 2010 at age 20. To honor the Moto2 rider, Japanese helmet company Shoei created a limited edition model wearing Tomizawa’s graphics. The special helmet is lightweight (weighs only 1.45 kg/3.2 lbs), rigid and features AIM+ Plus Advanced Integrated Matrix Materials. Read the full article »

Spanish brand Shiro revealed new helmets, including Demi-Jets SH-20, SH-202 Napoli, and Jet SH-80 Art Design. The Jet SH-80 Art Design is meant for those who use their bikes in an urban context, but would never give up the feeling of two-wheel riding. Maison Martin Margiela’s collaboration with helmet maker Ruby brings forth a special Pavillon helmet that is limited to 600 worldwide. Each comes with a serial number and distinctive drawings on the helmet inspired by graffiti on the Maison’s actual window. Hardware is engraved with Ruby’s emblems. The RSV4 is one of the most faszinating sportbikes on the market, but the Italians decided to make an even more agressive version. Aprilia developed a new carbon body kit for the RSV4 range. Each part is made from three layers (carbon/kevlar/carbon) for strength and finished by hand. The kit includes carbon belly pan, carbon front fairing, carbon tank cover, carbon air vents, right carbon side panel, left carbon side panel, right carbon tail and left carbon tail. Head injuries occur in 80% of all motorcyclist fatalities. A key factor in these injuries is brain swelling inside the helmet and the response time to address the issue. ThermaHelm technology helps to mitigate this problem by cooling the rider's head post-accident. A standard helmet acts like an insulator.
