Dany Torres of Spain triumphed on Friday evening in the opening round of the 2011 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour in Dubai. A crowd of 15,000 fans witnessed the exciting Freestyle motocross showdown on the beach in front of the luxurious metropolis on the Arabian Golf. Dorna Sports has announced signing a ten-year contract bringing MotoGP to the new Circuit of the Americas facility in Austin, Texas from 2013. This agreement includes the three categories of the World Championship; the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3. The addition of a ten-year MotoGP deal is coupled with the already scheduled ten-year deal to host the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, for which the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas is currently under construction. Jorge Lorenzo took victory in the wet MotoGP race at the Gran Premio bwin de España after Marco Simoncelli crashed whilst leading. It was a Spanish one-two with Dani Pedrosa claiming second position and Nicky Hayden in third. In a race which was run in wet conditions, making it very slippery, Simoncelli was on his way to his first victory in the premier class with a three second advantage over Lorenzo. With its victory in Qatar, Stoner is the first rider to win 800cc races with two different manufacturers, Ducati and Honda. The Australian was followed by Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo and teammate Dani Pedrosa. Stoner dominated the whole weekend at the Losail International Circuit, as he also took pole position and recorded the fastest lap of the race with a 1:55.366. The organizers of the TTXGP and the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) realized that partnership is a good idea. They announced yesterday a collaboration which means they will hold joint rounds. This means we can see better racing, more complete events and with the support of MotoGP-organizer Dorna, more media coverage. Rizla Suzuki has officially unveiled its updated 2011 GSV-R racing bike. The machine which Álvaro Bautista will be riding in this season’s MotoGP World Championship is the final generation of the 800cc GSV-R four-stroke prototype Grand Prix bike, due to the change in capacity limit to 1000cc next season. The latest version of Suzuki’s MotoGP challenger features an engine that has improved on its horsepower, driveability and durability through many detailed development changes throughout winter and pre-season testing. Spain's Carlos Checa (Ducati Althea Racing) scored a splendid double win at Phillip Island, a repeat of his double win at Imola last September. Just like in the first race, no one was able to run with the Spanish rider and he finished a couple of seconds ahead of Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia). The reigning world champion battled it out for the runner-up slot in the final stages with an impressive Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team), just getting the edge at the line. For the Aprilia Alitalia team last season was one of triumph and records: Max Biaggi was the first Italian in history to earn the World SBK Champion wreath and the Aprilia RSV4 brought the manufacturer Championship home Noale even though it was only in its second year.
