In 2011, WSBK will probably see 20 riders on the grid. Five Kawasaki Ninjas, four BMW S1000RR’s, four Ducati 1098R’s, three Aprilia RSV4 Factory’s, three Honda CBR1000RR’s and one Suzuki GSX-R1000’s. After the Ducati factory team pullout, BMW Italia team joined the party with James Toseland and Ayrton Baldovini. Interestingly, the 2010 World Champion, Max Biaggi decided to keep his #3 plate. The FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) and the official website of MotoGP have released the official entry lists for all three classes. The 125cc and the Moto2 entry lists are official, but MotoGP.com says the list of MotoGP class is still provisional. In this class, 2010 World Champion Jorge Lorenzo will be taking the #1 plate. It seems, two of the teams, Yamaha and Ducati have lost their sponsor: Fiat and Marlboro is out. Besides, Moto2 lost two teams, Jack & Jones by Antonio Banderas and Holiday Gym Racing. The Dakar 2011, which finished last weekend in Buenos Aires, will be remembered at KTM as one of the company’s greatest triumphs in rally sport. Not only the tenth concecutive win for the Austrian manufacturer but also a sensational ride by the company’s two leading factory riders who finished 1-2 in a two-way battle. The BMW Motorrad Italia Team, which will take part in two championships in 2011 with four riders, has been presented at the Autodromo di Monza. Britain's James Toseland (two-times WSBK champion) and last year's Superstock 1000 FIM Cup winner Italy's Ayrton Badovini will be taking part in the FIM Superbike World Championship, while the team run by Serafino Foti will also continue in Superstock 1000 with Italian Lorenzo Zanetti and last-minute addition, Frenchman Sylvain Barrier. The latest incarnation of an iconic team has returned to the World Superbike championship following today's launch of the new Castrol Honda team, with the global lubricants brand announcing title sponsorship of Honda's superbike effort for the upcoming 2011 title race. The new team will feature riders Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus campaigning Honda's CBR1000RR Fireblade, with the squad being run by the Netherlands-based Ten Kate Racing outfit, who have led Honda's World Superbike effort since 2004. Avoid trembling was the motto of the day. En route to Santiago de Baradero, Marc Coma started with more than 16' lead in the general standings on his long-term contender Cyril Despres. The risk of seeing this lead go to waste for title holder was almost nil for the title holder, so the big challenge of this special stage was to stay focused. TTXGP are pleased to announce a new venue for the TTXGP Euro series: Track Gellerasen in Sweden will play host to the first TTXGP race in the country. Track Gelleråsen was built 1950 and as such is the oldest permanent racing facility in Sweden . The former Grand prix track is 2.4km long and very technical with all the different types of turns and a good straight. 370 kilometres was the distance of the timed section on offer to Cyril Despres to try and buck the trend after his severe setback the day before. It seemed to be a delicate assignment for the title holder, with him being 18'10” behind Marc Coma in the general standings. Setting off in the position of pursuer, 2 minutes after his rival, the Frenchman logically gained ground during the first part of the special, totalling 1'31 after 224 km, a good score, but not sufficient to worry the Catalan. Ducati revealed the Desmosedici GP11 race bike yesterday, und today, we have a video of the event. Ducati likes to do things in style, that’s for sure. The press conference was held at Madonna di Campiglio, Trento, Italy. Rossi’s bike features luminous yellow painting and number 46. The return to Argentine territory of the Personal Dakar Argentina-Chile 2011 turned out to be very complicated for the challengers. Despite setting off behind Cyril Despres, his main rival for the bike title, Marc Coma took advantage of a major mistake by the Frenchman to put one hand on the trophy. On completion of the 10th stage, the Catalan now has a lead of 19' over Despres as well as a third special stage victory. Read the full article »
