Mercedes could be the second car company in the MotoGP after Fiat. The The German manufacturer and the Italian motorcycle company have already collaborated together this year’s World Ducati Week where lucky motorcycle fans could try out the brand new Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Mercedes could sponsor Ducati with their AMG logo. Air Asia, the first low cost airline of Asia, will probably be the main sponsor of the Yamaha MotoGP team. The team is currently owned by Fiat, but the Italian manufacturer has yet to announce if they will continue sponsoring the team next year. The first gossip was, that Spanish telecommmunications company Telefonica wants to sponsor the team. This second rumour seems more serious, because Air Asia negotiated with Honda HRC team earlier but they quit when they found out that Casey Stoner’s future RCV wasn’t involved. Suzuki will return to the Isle of Man TT in 2011 with Northern Ireland-based TAS Racing, the team has announced. TAS, one of the TT’s most successful teams, and Suzuki are continuing a partnership established more than a decade ago. The father and son team of Hector and Philip Neil will spearhead Suzuki’s efforts in the British Superbike Championship and the International Road Races, including the TT. There is no word yet on whether TAS will retain Cameron Donald and Bruce Anstey for next year’s road racing season, but there will be a two rider line-up and an announcement is expected in the next few weeks. Dakar organizers decided in June that professional riders will be limited to 450cc motorcycles from 2011. The organizers hope this move will make Aprilia, BMW and the Japanese manufacturers more competitive, but KTM might have a thing to say about that. This Honda RS125-powered streamliner has set a new speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats by achieving a two-way average speed of 146mph. 27-year-old Scott Kolb broke a 27 years old world record. The Honda RS125 is a custom framed bike that features radically altered geometry and a 98 inches wheelbase. Scott had to modify the bike with some additional features. He stretched the bike for more 40 inches, and replaced the radiator with a streamlined fairing. Read the full article »

The MotoGP race at Philipp Island in 2009 was one of Casey Stoner’s best we’d seen, the Australian won in front of his home crowd. Making the moment even more special for the fans, Stoner had a special race livery. French Ducati dealership hopes to commemorate that race with a limited number of Casey Stoner’s Ducati 1198S Philippp Island Replicas. The French Ducati dealer added some top Ducati Performance parts and a full Titanium Ducati Corse 70mm Termignoni exhaust system to the bike, while the special race livery costs €1900. Leslie Porterfield is one of the fastest women in the world, he already set a new world record at Bonneville Salt Flats, clocking 201mph in the 1000cc Production Class. But the young Texan isn’t satisfied, she is now hoping to top 254mph in the modified class on her Sir Speedy Honda. She says: "I have dreamed of setting records. Ever since I bought my first motorcycle at 16, I have believed that I would become the fastest person in the world. When I first started out, people told me I was crazy, but I was fearless and forged ahead through every obstacle, motivated by the belief that I would one day set a new world record." Photo finish is the worst nightmare of sprinters and motorcycle racers for a good reason. AMA Pro Racing had to use this photo finish to decide who won Race 1 of the Daytona Sportbike series at Virginia International Raceway this weekend. The two riders are Bobby Fong (#30) and Martin Cardenas (#36). At the end, Fong won but the margin was only 0,001 seconds. Can You make the call who won? Read the full article »

The Grand Prix Commission, MotoGP’s ruling body met at Brno at the weekend and they finalized the demise of the two-strokeengine from Grand Prix Racing. It’s long rumoured that the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) would phase out two-smokers. The new class will be officially called Moto3, with the first season to kick off in 2012. Rossi likened his departure from Fiat Yamaha as the end of a marriage: "even the most beautiful love stories finish, but they leave a lot of wonderful memories," said Rossi after Sunday's Czech GP. The signing will see two of Italy’s great racing legends compete together from next year.
