2011 looks like the end of the road for the current R1 as we know because the 2012 version will be a brand new, radical machine. You could ask, why do we think that? Because the Japanese only add graphics to their top-of-the-line sportsbike, instead of making improvements to the handling/engine/suspension. The 2011 version features the same 998cc, DOHC, four-valve in-line which produces 182hp at 12,500rpm and 85 lb.ft. at 10,000rpm. The bike has a fuel consumption of 40mpg (5,88 l/100km). The Japanese brand already caused a sensation in the motorcycle world earlier this year when they revealed the CBR250R. The bike has a reasonable large displacement engine which outperforms the 125cc category. Now the manufacturer’s in-house tuner, Mugen created a more sporty and agressive version, thanks to the combination of the red and black color scheme. In order to match the body color, seat riders are colored red with Mugen emblems. The guys at Mugen replaced the standard muffler but there’s no word on performance. Read the full article »

The Japanese brand just released the full specifications of its 2011 maxi scooter lineup, including the T-Max 500 ABS. The manufacturer also presented an innovative special edition version of the bike, called the Tech Max. Yamaha wanted to combine the convenience of a scooter with the supreme comfort and exciting performance of a sports-touring motorcycle. Yamaha introduced a new entry-level sportsbike for beginner riders. The 2011 YZF-R15 is powered by a 150cc 4-stroke single-cylinder engine which features four valves, wet sump lubrication, and a single overhead cam. The engine has a 10.4:1 compression ratio and is coupled with a six-speed gearbox. The bike weighs just 131kg (289lbs) wet. The Japanese manufacturer didn’t release any performance details. Sbay Motor Company creates one of the most interesting cruisers in Europe. The guys at the Spanish company thought they build a stylish and minimalistic cafe racer with American spirit. The bike, dubbed the Flying 1800, was designed to provide the rider the best feeling a motorcycle can offer. Power comes from a 1840cc Rev-Tech V-twin delivering 115hp which is mated with a 6-speed gearbox. American bike builder Confederate introduced its latest creation, the C3 X132. The machine comes in two versions: the Roadster (30° rake, 64.5″ wheelbase) and a Fighter model (23.5° rake, 61.5″ wheelbase). At the heart of the bike is a 2160cc V-twin engine which delivers 197Nm of torque (145lbs-ft). The V-twin is mated with a 5-speed transmission. The Hellcat is equipped with Brembo brakes and Race Tech suspension parts. The bike goes on sale in mid-2011 and will have a price tag of $45,000. Read the full article »

Spanish motorcycle magazine motociclismo.es has reported that Yamaha started projects for a three cylinder engine for a new development on its sports T-Max 500 maxi scooter. The 500cc engine is a twin cylinder, and the magazine says Yamaha will add a third cylinder to that engine. This would increase the displacement to 750cc, while the final transmission would be strengthened to match the greater power output. Suspension would be also modified. The new maxi scooter would be called T-Max 750. The bike could go into serial production during 2011. Read the full article »

The world’s oldest motorcycle manufacturer is going to introduce a new, saucy-looking model at this weekend’s Carole Nash Motorcycle Live at NEC. The new bike, called the Fury is based around the 500cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 27hp at 5500rpm and 41Nm at 4000rpm. The angry-loking, flat-track-inspired model features wide handlebars, two-into one exhaust and white-orange paintjob. The inventor of the Sinclair C-5 developed a new pedal-electric hybrid vehicle, the X-1. Sir Clive’s new electric motorcycle looks like a bubble and works a lot like a recumbent. The bike has a comfortable seat, forward-mounted pedals and a high handlebar. The vehicle weighs just 30kg and features a 190Watt motor.
