Husqvarna released a new teaser video for its 900cc parallel twin engine that will power the first of a series of new road bikes. According to the video, this will be the most powerful engine in Husqvarna’s history. The development of the new engine is well underway thanks to the finance of parent firm BMW. This is one of the first steps that demonstrates the synergy between BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna for the development of street bikes. The Bavarian manufacturer unveiled a new motorcycle and car communication system that aims to prevent cars pulling across the path of oncoming bikes. The „Left Turn Assistant” is activated automatically in the BMW 5 Series test vehicle as soon as the car’s sensors detect that it is entering the left-turn lane and the car registers the driver’s wish to turn off. Recognition of the left-turn lane takes place on two levels. The vehicle positioning function of the navigation system allows the location of the car to be fixed to within a metre at intersections. Never enough of car vs. bike videos. In this latest video we can see two of BMW’s finest machines, an M3 and an S1000 RR. Here's how the racing duel went - Rico and Nico are friends and they wanted to find out which one's faster: A BMW S 1000 RR or a BMW M3. The Bavarian manufacturer gave them the chance for a little extra tuning, put them on a racetrack and filmed the race. It sounds simple, but during the race it starts raining. BMW Motorrad USA announced today that it will be the first motorcycle manufacturer to offer ABS as standard equipment on its entire range of 2012 model year motorcycles. A recent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety revealed that motorcycles equipped with antilock brakes are 37 percent less likely to be involved in a fatal crash than models without ABS. BMW was the first motorcycle manufacturer to introduce ABS in 1988 and now offers a sixth generation and numerous ABS options across its product line. Read the full article »

The German manufacturer recorded a growth of 12.3% in 2010 over the previous year, but the 2011 Q1 numbers are even better. The brand significantly exceeded the previous year’s figures in the first three months of the year. Sales rose 10.9% to 23,109 units. BMW Motorcycles thus achieved the best quarterly result in its history. A total of 11,675 BMW motorcycles were delivered in March 2011 – an increase of 1.2%. Husqvarna Motorcycles delivered 1,940 motorcycles (+18.3%) to customers in the first quarter and 676 motorcycles (-17%) in the month of March. Read the full article »

According to MCN, BMW Motorrad has confirmed that the mass-production of the Concept C starts in 2012. The radical concept was designed to show the future of BMW motorcycles and was unveiled at last year’s Intermot in Cologne. BMW also confirmed that the production version of the bike will debut at this year’s EICMA show. The bike is powered by a powerful parallel twin wngine. And what about the production version? “Sadly we won’t have lasers fitted and however hard we’ve tried we can’t find anyone to make blue tyres.” says BMW Vice President of Design David Robb. This time, Pfeiffer is explaining and performing a stopping. „The Stoppie, sometimes also called a front wheelie is a motorcycle trick that does not only look extremely cool -- it's also quite hard to perform.
