Recent years have seen radical changes in the world of individual mobility, specifically in the conurbations, and the number of registrations has rocketed for virtually all individual transport concepts. However, the space available to traffic has not grown to the same extent, so individual mobility must come to terms with the new circumstances. Against this background, BMW Motorrad will be expanding its present motorcycle adventure world to include the big scooter. Ahead of EICMA, BMW released information on the 2011 R 1200 R and R 1200 R Classic naked machines. Generating perceptibly higher torques, the new boxer engine provides an extra boost to temperament. Derived from the BMW HP2 Sport, their new boxer with 1170 cc and DOHC valve gear corresponds to the engines already installed in the BMW R 1200 GS and BMW R 1200 RT. The basic R 1200 R has a sporty character with new cast light alloy wheels, the R 1200 R Classic presents wire spoke wheels for a deliberate touch of refined nostalgia. Read the full article »

Oscar-winning English actor Jeremy Irons rides a BMW R1200GS enduro bike in Hungary. The popular actor, who usually rides a BMW R1200RT, is currently filming the television series „The Borgias” in the Central European country and wanted another bike to use during his stay in Budapest. “I like working in Hungary, but I haven’t had the chance yet to get to know the country by motorcycle. The Michigan State Police’s Precision Driving Unit tests cars, trucks and motorcycles for U. S. law inforcement agencies since 1974. Last month they performed their annual independent performance testing on four potential Police bikes: the BMW R1200RTP, Kawasaki Concours 14 Police, Harley-Davidson Road King and Electra Glide. The Bavarian marque will introduce the 2011 R1200GS Triple Black at the EICMA show in Milan next month, but they already released the official photos and technical data of the special edition bike. The machine is based on the 2010 R1200GS and comes with metallic black paint, cross-spoke wheels, front forks, engine castings, rear sub-frame, and valve covers. The bike got BMW’s Premium Package which includes Enduro Electronic Suspension Adjustment, heated grips, hand guards, ABS, and pannier mounting points. The Triple Black uses the same 110hp boxer engine as the 2010 GS. The bike carries a price tag of $18,385 MSRP. Read the full article »

Ever since BMW Motorrad presented the concept study Concept 6 in autumn 2009, the new 6-cylinder in-line engine installed in it has caught the imagination of many motorcycle fans. For over seven decades now, 6-cylinder in-line engines have stood for fascinating engine technology in automobiles at BMW more than with any other brand. With the new K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL, BMW motorcycles are now available for the first time with a 6-cylinder in-line power unit developed in-house. Here’s the first official photo of BMW’s new big touring machine, the K1600GTL, which features a straight-six engine, iDrive, adaptive headlights, full-color TFT display, traction control, ABS, LED taillights, angel eyes, an iPod-compatible stereo and huge standard panniers. At the heart of the bike will be a 1649cc engine which produces 160hp at 7,000 rpm and 129lb/ft at 5,000rpm. Iconic British brand MINI unveils its exciting MINI Scooter E Concept today in London. The MINI Scooter E Concept comes almost ten years to the day since the new MINI was first shown at the Paris Motor Show. There are a total of three interpretations of the MINI Scooter E Concept conceived by Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design: two of which will be shown at the Paris Motor Show next week, while the third concept, inspired by the swinging sixties, the hey day of classic Mini is being shown exclusively in London. Daimler-owned Smart has released more plans for a plug-in electric scooter at the Paris Motor Show. The new motorcycle, depicted here in a couple of official sketches, is set to form part of Smart’s upcoming show spread. It’s currently uncertain when the scooter goes into production but knowing that Daimler plans to significantly broaden the Smart lineup we would say the fans of electric scooters don’t have to wait more than two years.
