The British division of BMW Motorrad launched two new special editions: the F800 ST Touring and K1300 R Dynamic. The F800 St Touring is designed to make long-distance riding even easier with a range of accessories, such as ABS, key-matched, expandable Sport Panniers, on-board computer, heated grips, main centre stand. BMW Motorrad introduced its new sport bike at Italy’s famed Monza racetrack, during the World Superbike race weekend, in May 9, 2009. The sophisticated, 193hp-strong supersport machine arrived in U.S. dealerships in January 2010, and since then, the S 1000 RR has earned three superlative awards from the U.S. media. After announcing increased sales in the second quarter of 2010, the motorcycle division of BMW reported additional positivity for July. The sales of the German manufacturer rose 4.4% to 10,022 over 500cc, a segment that’s been on the negative side of sales across all manufacturers lately. BMW sold 9604 motorcycles in July 2009 in this segment. In the January-July period, BMW sold more than 67 000 motorcycles (previous year: 56 578). The best-selling model is – no surprise – the long-distance enduro, the R1200 GS, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Read the full article »

The Olympics isn't a meaningful event for motorcyclists, but this can change pretty fast thanks to a new agreement and sponsorship announcement. None other than the BMW Group will be the Official Mobility Partner of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) from now through 2016. What you can see here, is a full-scale, three-dimensional blueprint of an astonishingly accurate rendition of a Chinese copy (Chiangyiang 750) of a russian copy (Dneper) of a German copy (Zündapp) of a bike based on a pre-World War II BMW R71 motorcycle with a side car. Chinese artist Chi Jindian searched the "brand new and completely untraditional" material for years, and he finally settled on steel wires. We have no idea how long Jindian worked on this motorcycle, but this is far the coolest art piece we've seen in a long time. Read the full article »

BMW will introduce its new K-series this fall, and approaching the date more and more details emerge from the two touring machines, the K1600GT and K1600GTL. In September 1980, BMW introduced a new breed of motorcycle, one that started a new era. This was the R 80 G/S, a machine that could offer both on-, and off-road practicability. In this moment a new category was born: the touring-enduro. The GS line won BMW four Dakar-titles, and the model is today the top-selling motorcycle in its class in Europe. According to BMW Motorrad, there are over 40% motorcyclists actively involved in track riding. For this reason the motorcycle arm of BMW decided to launch a new range of special products for use on the race track - the High Performance Race Parts. The new BMW K1600 GT ang GTL will feature a nice long list of innovative technologies, one of them is the world's first adaptive headlight for motorcycles.
